Dr. Tamara Sunbul
A second generation Aramcon, Tamara Sunbul, MD, was born and raised in Dhahran. After completing a MBBS in Medicine and Surgery, Tamara joined Saudi Aramco in 1994. Following a rotation in different departments, Tamara headed up the Primary Care Redesign group and the establishment of the award-winning Primary Care Patient Ownership Program.
In 1996, Tamara started working with medical informatics serving as the physician representative of various IT projects and enhancements. In 2007, Tamara began working with IT to establish the platform for a new electronic health record. In 2011, Tamara obtained professional certification in Healthcare Information and Healthcare Management (CPHIMS). In 2012, she worked with data collection/ analysis/ KPI development, populating the Saudi Aramco Medical Services Organization (SAMSO) dashboard and Physician Profiles. In 2014, following the formation of the medical joint venture, Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH), Tamara obtained two Epic certifications; Inpatient Procedure Orders and Inpatient Clinical Documentation. In 2016 Tamara completed the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health’s Leadership Strategies for Information Technology in Healthcare program. Tamara also became a certified Project Manager Professional (PMP) that year. Tamara currently serves on the Clinical Leadership, Clinical Chiefs, IT, Epic steering committees. She also co-chairs the Data and Documentation Governance committee.
In 2013, Tamara was awarded 2nd place in the poster competition at HIMSS 13 Physician Symposium. Tamara serves on various HIMSS task forces, such as the Usability Task Force, Project Management SIG. She is also an active member in HIMSS Physician, Clinical & Business Intelligence and the Innovation communities. In 2015, Tamara was recognized as a Senior Member of HIMSS.
